tour: Mountain Charm by Sydney Landon - excerpt & giveaway

Title: Mountain Charm
Author: Sydney Logan
Genre: New Adult/ Supernatural
Release Date: July 2nd 2013

Sydney Landon's Site
At the age of thirteen, Angelina Clark followed in the footsteps of her ancestors by casting an Appalachian love spell, which promised she would blossom into a beautiful and gifted woman who would find her true love. A young Angelina had been thrilled to participate in the sacred ritual, but through the years, her father’s untimely death and her mother’s failing health have shaken Angelina’s magical faith to its core. As her twenty-first birthday approaches, she refuses to practice her supernatural gifts and no longer believes in the love charm.

That is, until Dylan Thomas arrives on her front porch.

Dylan, a Nashville writer, travels to the mountain town of Maple Ridge to unearth the family’s supernatural secrets. While her clairvoyant mother is convinced that Dylan is her daughter’s soul mate, Angelina refuses to see the nosy reporter as anything more than a nuisance.

Despite their constant bickering, sparks fly.

Dylan admits he feels strangely drawn to Angelina and is in no hurry to leave Maple Ridge or publish his magazine article. Fearful that his emotions are being influenced by the spell, a stubborn Angelina struggles to fight her own budding attraction to the reporter.

The two inevitably grow closer just as her mother’s health begins to deteriorate, and Angelina is faced with the possibility of selling the family’s music shop to pay the mounting medical expenses. Desperate to help the woman he loves, Dylan explores his own family tree and finds support from an unlikely source. Can he finally prove his love is real—spell or no spell?
A story filled with love, friendship, family, and just a hint of Appalachian magic, Mountain Charm will leave you spellbound.

Excerpt from Mountain Charm

“It’s your birthday?” Dylan asked.

“Yes, and it was blissfully uneventful until you showed up.”

“Beautiful and infuriating,” Dylan muttered. “Look, Angelina, I was just given this assignment yesterday. I don’t have a clue about Appalachian magic tricks or devil-worshipping or whatever it is you do up in these mountains, but I have a story to write. Just let me interview you and your mom, and I’ll be back on the interstate before you can say abracadabra.”

Instead of pointing out just how ignorant he sounded, Angelina decided what he truly needed was a strong dose of fear.

“Actually, I do have something you need to see. A family heirloom. Wait here?”

Excited for any useful information, Dylan’s eyes lit up and he nodded enthusiastically. Once again, those good manners kicked in, and Dylan opened the door for her.

Angelina raced inside the house. She hadn’t touched it in years, but she still remembered where her father kept the key to the case. She grabbed what she needed and quickly made her way back out to the porch, letting the screen door slam behind her.

Dylan jumped out of his chair. “What the hell?”

Angelina lifted the rifle and pointed it straight at him. He didn’t need to know the safety was on—or that the chamber was empty.

“This is a Remington, passed down from my father and his father, also known as an Appalachian magic wand. Just watch. It’s going to make you disappear.”

Angelina thought it was almost comical, hearing him curse and watching him leap off the porch. All the commotion caused her dog to chase after him, which only made Dylan sprint faster until he reached the sanctuary of his vehicle.

“Are you insane?” Dylan yelled.

“I tend to get a little crazy when someone trespasses on my property. Leave my family alone and don’t come back!”

He slammed the door and had to do some fancy maneuvering to get around her car, but within seconds, the only sounds Angelina could hear were Dylan’s squealing tires, her dog’s noisy bark, and her mother’s hearty laughter.

tour: the redhead plays her hand by alice clayton - review

Title: The Redhead Plays Her Hand
Author: Alice Clayton
Series: The Redhead Series
Length: 320 pages
Release Date: December 17, 2013

The third sexy novel in USA TODAY bestselling author Alice Clayton’s playful and erotic Redhead series continues the sizzling romance between actress Grace Sheridan and Hollywood’s hottest leading man Jack Hamilton.

Grace has landed the lead in a new TV series—but when the director asks her to lose fifteen pounds, she goes public with her weight struggles and suddenly develops a huge fan club who support her right to have curves. But between that and the public’s continuing fascination with her “are they or aren’t they” relationship with Jack, Grace begins to wonder if anyone’s really interested in her because of her upcoming TV series, or if it’s all speculation about the size of her ass and her bedroom partner.

Meanwhile, Jack is voted the Sexiest Man Alive and becomes a little too enamored with the party-hard lifestyle. Grace vows to give him the space he needs to find himself, but then he begins to spiral down from lovable Brit to Hollywood brat. People are talking, but are Jack and Grace? Her career is on the rise, and his continues into the stratosphere, but will she be able to catch him if he falls? Will they ever be able to just be a couple who can hold hands when they walk down the street?

Thoughts on the redhead plays her hand

Even Hollywood's "It Boy" can be an asshat. Or is it especially be an asshat?

The Redhead Revealed picks up with Grace beginning to film her television show and Jack headed out to another film location. At first everything seems kosher but slowly things start to change and it isn't for the better. Grace is trying to balance the pressures and demands of her new job and Jack is starting to crack under the weight of his celebrity and new co-star and Hollywood Bad Boy Adam isn't helping.

What I Liked

Grace! She really came into her own in this story. There were a few things I found questionable but really, each job has requirements some good, some not so good and Grace was doing what she needed to know but not letting it take her over.

And while Grace and Jack were experiencing growing pains emotionally it sure wasn't physically. The physical between them was just as hot and emotional as it ever was. The bond between was as strong and chemistry was oh so hot.

What I Loved

I loved how real the problems were between Jack and Grace. They were problems a lot of us face but adapted for their situations. A long distance relationship, people commenting when it's really none of their business and scrutiny of their age difference were issues that they faced and they faced them hard. The angst wasn't just there for a device, it was real.

Alice Clayton writes some of my favorite dialogue ever and The Redhead Plays Her Hand is just as good, if not better, than the rest. The ending was somewhat sudden but it was in true Jack and Grace style. It was pretty perfect and just what I wanted to see from them.

What I Didn't Like

Doesn't everybody know that jerk guy that is determined to make everything all about him? Yeah, Jack fell in with Adam's behavior to easily and I had a hard time believing at times that he could be so selfish and moronic. Grace did too which is why her excuses that he was just acting his age or having a "difficult" time rang flat. She tried really hard to get him to see what he was doing and how it was affecting those who cared for him but it really takes rock bottom for him to understand.

The Redhead Plays Her Hand was a wonderful ending to a great series and I'm pretty excited to see what Alice Clayton has in store for next year.

Morning Pancakes Excerpt:

Speaking with her mouth full, she mumbled, “Meese are smoo goob.”

“Meese? Goob?” I repeated while attempting to translate in my head.

She held up a finger and finished chewing. My eyes focused on her mouth while she licked the syrup off her fingers. “I said these are so good. I never figured you for a man who could cook.”

“Pancakes aren’t cooking. I use the box stuff.” I shrugged. “My cooking abilities are limited. Trust me.”

“No need to get defensive. Not calling your masculinity into question. Certainly not after last night.”

I smirked at her. “Don’t forget this morning.”

She lowered her eyes to her plate and swirled her finger through the pool of syrup. “Oh, I haven’t forgotten.” Her tongue licked the tip of her finger before she sucked the tip into her mouth.

“Fuck.” My cock twitched.

“What?” she asked innocently, but her motives were splashed across her face.

“You know exactly what.”

“What are you going to do about it?” A giggle burst from her mouth in a whoosh when I picked her up off the stool and lifted her onto the counter. “Oh, well then, carry on …”

I lowered my mouth to hers. She tasted of syrup and bacon and her—the perfect combination. Her chin was sticky with sweetness, so I licked it.

“You smell of syrup. I think it’s my new favorite scent.” I moved down her neck to kiss the skin peeking out from my shirt she wore. “Mmm … it’s my new favorite taste, too.” I kissed her again. And again.

book.chat: Christmas Wish List & Gift Ideas

I'm pretty excited that Jessica at The Tangerine brought The Book Chat this week since it's pretty much my favorite linkup ever. She's been hard at work on her novel for NaNoWriMo but the book chat is back this week and it's all about our Christmas Wish List and Gifts for the Book Lover.

My Wish List is probably longer than my kids Christmas List.  There have been so many wonderful books out lately and ones that are still due that I pretty much don't know where to start.  I've been caught up in the NA/YA genre lately and I'm loving it.

All I Want For Christmas

And while I like contemporary books, I love the classics in gifts.  Etsy is a wonderful place to find unique gifts of my favorite stories.

about the author

Barbara DeLeo’s first book, co-written with her best friend, was a story about beauty queens in space. She was eleven, and the sole, handwritten copy was lost years ago, much to everyone’s relief. It’s some small miracle that she kept the faith and is now living her dream of writing sparkling contemporary romance with unforgettable characters.

After completing degrees in Psychology and English then travelling the world, Barbara married her winemaker hero and had two sets of twins.
She still loves telling stories about finding love in all the wrong places, with not a beauty queen or spaceship in sight.
