Jack & Cassie's story continues in the follow up to the Best Selling book, The Perfect Game.

Thrust into the spotlight, Cassie must learn how to navigate the waters of this sometimes unforgiving and cruel world. It's a lifestyle that makes you question your happiness and sanity as the past is never truly far behind.

How do you stay together when the world's trying to tear you apart?

B r i g h t o n ' s   R a t i n g

It takes a lot to change my mind about a character.  Once I form an impression it's pretty hard for the story to change my mind.  At the end of the first book in the series The Perfect Game, I was torn between feeling sorry for Jack and thinking karma is a bitch and he got what was coming to him.  The epilogue for that book kind of tied things up but left me with lots of questions.

The Game Changer picks up pretty much where The Perfect Game left off- with Jack at the door in his brand new Mets jersey.  There is no "will she take him back" moment because we already know Cassie does in the previous books epilogue.  We are treated to a series of flashbacks that shows us what happened to Jack when he and Cassie were apart.  Love him or hate him, Jack did have his reasons for not contacting Cassie for as long as he did and being a man, they made sense to him.

Just because Jack and Cassie are back together doesn't mean it's all smooth sailing- at all.  Cassie gets a hard crash course in what it means to be a major league baseball player's girlfriend from obnoxious fans to the mean girl wives and Jack goes through the emotional wringer trying to make up for month's of wrong decisions.   Oh, and don't forget the hot new driver, Matteo, that's in the mix as well.

The Game Changer pretty much had me right from the start.  My curiosity of what went down while Jack was out of the picture was insanely high. I would have been just like Cassie; I need to hear all the details no matter what.  And I just want to take this moment to say that I think that Melissa is one of the best friend characters I've ever read.  I would want her in my corner anytime.

I had a lot of back and forth feelings for this book.  I've always said one of my favorite things about reading a series is the chance to see the characters grow and change in each book.  In the first book I felt like Jack changed too quick for Cassie and his relapse was not a surprise no matter how much he was in love.  This book's Jack Carter though, this Jack Carter stepped up to the plate and was definitely able to "prove it".  Strangely enough it was Cassie that drove me a little crazy this time.

Cassie has had to deal with a lot in her life even before she met Jack.  It shaped a lot of her reactions to him and I don't blame her at all for any of them.  But there were a few times where she made some un-Cassie like decisions.  Jack was trying so hard to make up for the past and to "prove it" and she was putting up roadblocks that were not doing them any good.  But again, J. Sterling pulled everything together at the end and even gave the us and Cassie the satisfaction of slapping their problems out.

The Game Changer is a perfect follow up and although Cassie and Jack's story came to a wonderful close I hope that we'll get to see more of Dean and Melissa in the future.

J. Sterling
I got fired from my last job.
It's true.
I know you're sitting there thinking, "Jenn, how could anyone in their right mind fire someone as amazing and awesome as you are???" And i'd love to give you a good reason, but the truth is... being This! Awesome! is clearly very scary to other less awesome people. :)
So I said screw them and started writing my first book. And you know what I realized? Writing books that mean something to me is a million times better than working for my ass off for someone who doesn't really care about anything other than the bottom line.
My soul feels more satisfied.
My heart, more full.
So thank you for reading, loving and recommending the stories I write.
I think you're awesome- and not only am I not scared of other awesome people, I want them on my team!

{ book.chat - great outdoors }

Photobucket

I am not a big fan of the outdoors.  I didn't play outside a lot as a kid.  When I was forced to I would mostly sit outside and read while the other kids climbed all over the jungle gym or dug in the sandbox.  I didn't like getting my hands or clothes dirty at all.  It still rings true to this day.  I like sitting on the back deck reading while the kids dig away in their sandbox and race around the yard.  The dirtier they are it seems like the more fun they had.

When today's book chat topic from Jessica was about the great outdoors I realized that while I'm not big on playing outdoors I do love reading about people who do.  One of my favorite authors and the top of my autobuy list is Nora Roberts and many of my favorite books of hers are set in the outdoors.  My shortlist of favorites...

  T H E  R A C E  T R A C K
I've never been to a horse race of any kind but the detailing in the story makes me imagine I am.  I always wanted a horse when I as little but after my first trip to a local riding ranch I was over that ideal once I seen a horse go to the bathroom.  There was no way my clean-freak-self was cleaning up after that.

B L A C K  H I L L S
I've never been to the Black Hills of South Dakota but I really love Nora Roberts' touch for bringing an area to life.  The detailing and imagery was so beautiful that I ended up Googling the area on my map app.  I'm weird like that.

T H E  F O R E S T
I'm not a fan at all of the woods.  At all.  Which is bad because my backyard butts up to a small forest and across the road is nothing but woods.  I'm also one of those weird people that imagines there's something staring at me from the woods at night so I keep all my curtains closed when it gets dark.  And what happens in the woods at the end of the story does not help my sanity at all but I do like the river.

T H E  O C E A N
I should start by saying I do love the water and I love taking our boat out for a ride but my love comes with stipulations... like I have to be able to see the other side of the lake.  Oh yeah, the big lake scares me.  I've lived a half an hour from Lake Michigan all my life and been there many times but never out in a boat.  There's a lovely little lake less than five minutes from here that is just fine.  There is really no way I'd ever be able to dive in the ocean and search for buried treasure like they do in this book.

T H E  M O U N T A I N S
The idea of fire jumping is exotic to me.  The men and woman who risk their lives to be on the front lines are one of a kind and this was the first book I've ever read from their point of view.  The research done for this was top notch and the imagery left me feeling like I was right in the middle of the smoke.

T H E  R A N C H
I've always had a secret love for ranches.  I'd love to live on a ranch and tend to the animals and see the big open sky.  At least the small animals, I've already said horses are pretty but they are also pretty big.  But mostly, because I like the quiet.  There would be no loud cars or obnoxious boom boxes driving by.  Just the sounds of the outdoors.  I would really like that.

Do you like the great outdoors?

{ Redneck Romeo Release Week Blitz - The Future of Rough Riders and Day 7 of Giveaways }

Title: Redneck Romeo
Author: Lorelei James
Series: Rough Riders
Length: 400 pages
Release Date: June 18, 2013
ISBN: 9781619218710
Imprint: Samhain Publishing

The last McKay standing is knocked to his knees…
Three years ago, Dalton McKay looked across the altar and saw the woman he knew he’d love for the rest of his life…only it wasn’t his bride. That’s when he took the McKays’ love-’em-and-leave-’em reputation to new heights—fleeing the ceremony and Wyoming.
Now a family issue has brought Dalton back to Sundance, giving him a chance to prove to everyone—especially the woman he thought he lost—that he’s a changed man.
Aurora “Rory” Wetzler has fallen for cowboy hottie Dalton’s smooth-talkin’ ways too many times. So he’s determined to convince her he’s playing for keeps this go around? Fine. She’ll call that bluff—she can’t ignore their intense chemistry or resist smokin’ hot sex, but she’s not willing to gamble her heart again.
Dalton has plenty of fences to mend with the McKays, but his biggest fear is that Rory doesn’t believe they have a future. He’ll have to pull out all the stops to show her they belong together for the long haul.
Warning: Contains a sexy cowboy who tames his sassy lady love with his romantic and his kinky side. In explicit detail.

The Future of the ROUGH RIDERS

Slick from Guilty Pleasures:  Since I just finished reading Redneck Romeo about the last McKay man standing, Dalton, I have to ask who will be the focus of book 16 and is that truly the end?  Because I have to tell you having Ky driving and into girls is going to open up a whole can of worms about when the kid's stories are going to be told.

No fun, I know, but no comment on Rough Riders book 16 yet...I'll clue you all in a bit further down the road. I get a bajillion questions about why I'm ending the Rough Riders series at book 16. And yes, I could probably write a second generation of McKays (Love Love Love my readers but you guys are driving me insane with the "When will you write Boone and Sierra's book?! Crazy rabid fans, I keep threatening that if you keep nagging me it'll be...never -- ha ha, yet I'd never do that because I want to know what happens too!) but I've always considered this series a western saga that DOES have an end. I've been fortunate that I've been allowed to write the books how I want, at the pace I want, with the subject matter I want--all with 100% publisher support. That is rare. Since the books have such a great following, there is that mindset to continue to "cash in" on the popularity of the series and characters. But I won't do that because at what point do the new books just become a rehash of the older books? I'd much rather end the series on a high note, at the height of popularity than wait until the series might be considered "tired" and I start to lose readers. Plus, I have lots of ideas, situations, characters and areas to explore in other fictional worlds. I hope readers come along for the ride.

Interview (Slick from Guilty Pleasures conducted the interview)

Hey Lorelei...I bet after last weekend at RAGT you thought you'd be off the hook with questions from me and my oh so nosey husband, huh?  But because, I know some people out there might be interested in knowing some of the things he asked you the first two questions are from him and I left out the insanely personal ones he asked!

Slick's hubster:  If you could spend one night with one of the McKay's which one would it be and why?

Any of the McKays? Hmm...asking the tough questions right off the bat, but today I'd have to say...Bennett McKay.

Slick's hubster:  Have you even considered writing a woman that turns the tables on one of your dominate men?  One that looks at the man when he's being demanding and says, "yeah right, how about you do that and then we'll talk."

I haven't considered that for the Rough Riders series, but my new series--The Surrender Series--which debuts early next year--has more possibilities for that type of scenario since the books feature bondage and a sex club with Dominants and submissives. Then there's always the Rawhide Club, from COWBOY CASANOVA. I've gotten tons of questions on whether I'd be interested in turning that concept into a series.

Slick: You probably figured I'd ask this one since we've conversed about it many times, when the hell am I going to get my story about Ramona and the rest of the West side?

Well, you're in luck, you heard it here first! DR. FEELGOOD, Doc Monroe, Chet and Remy West's story in the Wild West Boys series is scheduled to release in December 2013!

Slick:  If you could take two months off and do anything you wanted to and go anywhere you wanted and money was no object, what would you do and why?

I would visit all the islands in the Caribbean and just chill out. Recharge my batteries and sun and sand and water always does it for me.

Slick: Thanks L for being a good sport, for creating this wonderful family we all love, and for being you, because I have to say you are pretty damn awesome!

Aw, thanks!
