{ currently crushing on... summertime }

It's almost officially summer time here.  And by official I mean that school's almost out.  Our last day is June 8th and I don't know if the kids or I are more excited.  They are excited to just be done with homework and math.  I am looking forward to sleeping and not having to pack lunches.

Summertime brings around a bunch of new interests and fun.  What I'm crushing on this week...

I am determined to bake my way through this book over the summer. Do you see the red, white and blue cupcake on the cover? I am so making that.

On the note of red, white, blue; I just love these buttons. I love decorating and scrapbooking with buttons. It's a not-so-secret obsession.   I was that girl that wore buttons all over her "Blossom"style hat in middle school.  If you know what I mean than you also hear "Whoa!" in the same voice I'm thinking right now too.

A different red, white, blue: I WANT this Kindle Fire cover. I like all things british and the grunge look is nice. That way if I scratch or smudge it, you'll never know.

I found this store on etsy recently and I am drooling over how good they look. There's even a macaroni and cheese necklace!

Last but not least it's summertime...which is baseball time. I try watch my Tigers whenever I can and Brennan Boesch is my Tiger.  It's been rough lately but they'll bounce back.

What are you crushing on?

{ ten on tuesday - 10 favorite material possessions }

Material possessions are easy to come by and some are hard to let go.  Some on my list are sentimental and some are just plain make my life easier.  I'd need to add way more then ten to remotely feel complete but this is a little mix of the sentimental and make life easier sides.

1. My laptop.  I probably (no, I'm pretty sure I do) spend too my time on here goofing off when I'm bored and just plain wasting time but it's also my connection to the outside world as as SAHM.   I can email teachers when plans change, I keep in contact with friends, and I digital scrapbook as well.

2.  I used to agonize over which book I wanted to take when I left the house.  What if I finished it or got bored with it?  I love my Kindle Fire for the ability it gives me to read any book I want, wherever I want.  And for the amazing fact that my Little Man can watch Blues Clues whenever he wants thanks to Instant Streaming.

3.  I take pictures.  LOTS of pictures.  Thousands of pictures.  When I was younger the camera only came of for special events or birthdays.   I know what every birthday cake I ever had looks like and what Halloween costumes I wore.  I takes (lots) of pictures of those events as well, but I love that my kids will be able to look back and have reminders of the everyday things they did too.  Like when dressed up in superhero capes, swim goggles, and cowboy boots.  Their future significant others will love that!

4.  The coffee pot.  I've had this particular machine forever.  And it's still as reliable as the day I bought it.  I never thought I'd be one of those people with a coffee addiction...but I am.

5.  This is my favorite cup in the whole world.  My Queen B bought it for me with her own money a long time ago because "Mom likes Coke.  You need to drink your Coke in a Coke glass."  Bless her little heart.

6.  My sister brought this back from a trip to Chicago and I love it.  I've never really had a trinket box but it fits my everyday jewelry so well.  And it looks a little Audrey Hepburn-ish too.

7.  Along the same lines as my photo albums, I love my scrapbook albums.  In them I can tell the story behind the pictures and make the memory last forever.

8.  My Grandfathers hat.  He wore this everyday for as long as I can remember.  I've never washed it and it still has the sawdust on it from the last time he wore it outside.  This is something I'll never part with.

9.  The cards from our wedding.  We've been married 10 years this month and someday I want to make a small book out of them.  Some of the people that were there have passed or we last contact with but it's a reminder of who was important that day of our life.

10.  Last but not least, the pants that each of my children wore home from the hospital.  The onesie changed with the seasons they were born in but the pants remained the same.  I love that each of their little butts came  home for the first time with something the same.

{ project life - week 22 }

project life week 22
may 20-26, 2012

 page 1
 Summer Fun comes early.  The temperatures were up and there was water playing going on.  The school year is winding down and Little Man is getting so big and smart.  I love watching him grow everyday but I hate knowing the fact that's it's going to be the last time we get to experience all those firsts.

The flowers are blooming and they are so pretty.  I don't get to enjoy them for very long though until a munchkin picks them.  And never let the husband stop along the side of the road.  He may end up letting everyone pet a turtle while you cringe in the front seat.

{ currently crushing on }

I love Summer.  It's my second, maybe third favorite season after fall.  The grass turns green, the leaves are out, flowers bloom, the temperatures get warmer...you get the idea.
And Summer brings a whole new wardrobe.  You can bust out of that bulky winter coat.  This is something that I always have to get used to.  In the winter I can wear my old, holey shirt to the store and no one would know the difference.

Now what will I be wearing...

Welcome back Summer.  I missed you!

{ ten on tuesday - the tv soundtrack to my childhood }

A friend of mine was referring to something that had happened in the last ten years and it dawned on me that she mean the 1990s.  And that then brought on a whole different realization.

I didn't listen to a lot of music when I was younger but I did watch a lot of television.  (By the way, things that I did when I was younger I would never let my munchkins do now.)  I would consider this the soundtrack of my younger years.

Party of Five - not my favorite show but oh my, didn't Bailey Salinger have the cutest dimples?

The Fresh Prince of Bel-Air - the ultimate theme song.  The song all other songs should bow down to. Word.

Saved by the Bell - my very first crush was Zach Morris. The only reason I would get up early on a Saturday morning.

Who's The Boss? - I wanted to be like Samantha Micelli so bad. She was the coolest girl when I began to realize that the characters were really actors. I also wanted to know why didn't we have a housekeeper?

Beverly Hills, 90210 - I only started watching because all my friends did. I consider it my introduction to the bad boy. I am talking about you Dylan McKay

Dawson's Creek - can I tell you how much I wanted to be Joey Potter. I watched a little 90210 when my mom worked late but this was the first show where I got the teen angst.

Full House - I watched Mary Kate and Ashley long before my oldest did.

Friends - I thought that this was what grown up life would be like.

Growing Pains - This was my favorite tv show for a long time. I love younger Leonardo DiCaprio.

Step By Step - Not my favorite show but it was apart of TGIF and therefore I had to watch it then.

Which one was your favorite?

{ project life - week 18 & 19 }

Project Life Weeks 18 & 19

page 1
It's another week of combined weeks.  I hate the feeling of "finding" things to fill up the week if it was a quiet one or if I didn't take enough pictures. So combing  I did!  The Spring storms that pop up are very heavy and usually loud, but they leave behind the most beautiful skies.  PL wasn't the only thing I was behind on.  I would rather wash every dish I own sometimes than catch up laundry.  The school year is winding down and  the last month is filled with field trip and parties.  One kid done, one to go.

The Husband and I celebrated 10 years married this weekend.  I can't believe it's been that long.  And Mother's Day was spent on the lake and resting.  I can live with that.

{ ten on tuesday - Memorial Day & Fourth of July Decorations }

Memorial Day is right around the corner and the Fourth of July is closer than you think. I use many of  the same decorations for both holidays and when I pull them out it really begins to feel like summer.  You can check out my Patriotic Inspire board on Pinterest too for more ideas.

My favorite ideas that I have made or will be making for summer celebrations...

1.As a little kid I always wanted to ride my bike in the town parade, but I was really too shy too. Queen B asked last year to ride and hopefully she won't be as timid as her mom.

2. I love glass jars. I have many in all shapes and sizes throughout the house. I love filling them with seasonal decorations and this is so pretty!

Source: allyou.com via Brighton on Pinterest

3. The best thing about doors- decorating them. I plan on making this one for my back door this year.

4. I like to sneak little accents in on shelves and this is one of my favorites.

5. Strawberries are the summer fruit. Strawberries and chocolate are a little piece of summer heaven.

6. I love the firecrackers coming from the top of the cake. Firecrackers on cakes are very festive and eye-catching.

7. Yeah, I pretty much love all things firecrackers. This centerpiece would make a nice inside decoration too.

8. I have these on my front porch and back deck. They look so pretty from afar and cast just enough light in the late evening that we don't have to turn on the yard lights.

9. The best instruction I have ever come across on making your own flags. I am a very novice sewer and I had no problems following along. You can also adapt it to so many other colors as well.

10. Working with paint chip sheets is new to me and they are very versatile.  They give a nice stripe effect that I love.

What are some of your favorite decorations?
