{ once upon a time there was a girl who needed glasses }

If you ever saw a picture of my family you would notice one thing right away- almost everyone wears glasses.  And by almost everyone that did not include me, at least until I was in high school.  That was when I  turned into that kid that squinted at the blackboard from the front row.

You know the kid, and maybe you were that kid too.  I was not at all happy to find out at the optometrist that I was going to need glasses as I was nearsighted and also had a astigmatism.  I also found out that "astigmatism" was one word, not two.  Who knew?  That diagnosis sent me (and my parents) on the search for the perfect eyeglasses frames.

My first pair of eyeglasses were awful.  They were huge and round and the only pair in parents price range that we could agree on.  Stylish and affordable were not two words that went together at that time.

Oh, how times have changed.  Now you do not have to sit in a waiting room and try on hundreds of frames in the tiny mirrors and hope the assistant with you is telling truth when she says "Those look nice."  You can now order glasses online.

My teenage self wishes that a place like GlassesUSA.com was around with their new Virtual Mirror Feature.

It's an amazing tool that lets you see what your glasses will look on you before your purchase them.  Maybe cat-eye glasses would look good on me (they don't) or maybe the sophisticated look would be more my style with a pair of rectangular shaped glasses (I wasn't).
